Important microchip warning for pet owners

Your pet’s safety could be at risk — here’s what you need to know.

If your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, you may need to act quickly.

We’ve been made aware that HomeSafeID may soon go offline, which means microchip records stored with them could become inaccessible. This is a serious risk — if your pet goes missing, councils, shelters and vets won’t be able to look up your details using their microchip number. Without a working microchip registry, even a chipped pet may end up in a shelter with no way to trace them back to you.

That’s why it’s important to check your pet’s current registration and, if needed, move them to a trusted and accessible registry — like Central Animal Records (CAR).

But don’t worry — we can help.

How we can help

AmbassaDog Nala

We’re offering microchip updates and transfers to Central Animal Records for just $10. You can book an appointment at any one of our four Dogs’ Homes locations across Tasmania.

Central Animal Records is the only registry we are currently able to transfer details to.

During your appointment, we’ll help:

  • Check your pet’s current microchip number and registry
  • Scan your pet if you’re unsure of their microchip number
  • Transfer and update details with Central Animal Records
  • Ensure your contact information is correct and accessible in case your pet goes missing

You’ll need to attend your appointment in person so we can check that your ID matches the microchip details listed with HomeSafeID. If the details don’t match, we won’t be able to verify ownership or proceed with the update.

Please bring your ID, your dog’s microchip number and date of birth. More information can be found on the booking link below.
