FAQ for Volunteering

My child/best friend/partner loves dogs. Can they come with me when I volunteer?

Sorry, but only inducted volunteers can attend when you volunteer and only one person per dog is permitted.

I need a certificate of my volunteer hours for external program requirements, can the Dogs’ Homes provide one?

Sorry, we do not have the resources to provide certificates of volunteer hours.

I’d like to volunteer for just a day or so

Because of the time required to train and induct volunteers, we ask for a commitment of at least three months.

I’m not sure I can come every week.

That’s ok, we need our volunteers to come at least monthly, but we understand that not everyone can come every week. As long as you are attending regularly, it doesn’t matter if you need to take a break now and again.

My own dog is very social, can they come with me when I volunteer?

Sorry, for safety reasons we can only have Dogs’ Homes dogs on site, unless they are there for an adoption meet.

I used to volunteer and I’d love to come back

Great, we’d love to see you again. If it’s been more than six months since you volunteered, we’d like you to do another induction, just to make sure you are up to date on all procedures. So wait till you see an information session in your area and re-apply.

If I walk dogs at one Home, can I help out at another Home when I’m on holidays?

Talk to the supervisor at the other Home, and they may be able to arrange a site induction.

I’ve got some skills I think will be helpful but aren’t on your list.

Get in touch and let us know what you would like to do.

My 13 year old loves dogs and would like to volunteer.
