Pete asks Dogs’ Home alumna, Jessie, ‘where are you now?’

Pete: How long have you been with your humans?

Jessie: It’s been 21 years (or three if you use human years).

Pete: What has life together been like?

Jessie: No complaints from me. My staff have a lovely shack on the east coast where we holiday in summer, and we live near the beach and river. The service is pretty good too. I have two chauffeurs and there is generally a servant around to open doors and be my personal trainer, masseuse and hairdresser.

Pete: Your servants are better than my slave! Do you have any animal companions? Do you like them?

Jessie: There is a very prissy cat called Flower Blossom. She did move next door when I first arrived, but now she is back. I’ve tried to make friends but she is very aloof. There are also two ponies, and there was a big horse who liked to chase me but thankfully he moved to be closer to the beach. One of the ponies kicked me too. I don’t like them. They are big bullies. I do like eating their hoof trimmings though when the farrier comes. Delicious.

Pete: What are foofs? How do you trim them? Oh, never mind. Are there special things you do with your humans?

Jessie: We go for drives, runs on the mountain, and go swimming at the beach and river. We also holiday at the shack. I’m obviously their favourite, as I’m the only animal that gets to go.

Pete: What are your favourite things to do/toys/colours/TV shows/sounds/food and treats/anythings?

Jessie: I like food. A lot. And if I see water, any water, stagnant muddy puddles, whatever, I like to sit in it.

Pete: And your dislikes?

Jessie: When humans eat in front of you and tell you to go away. It’s the height of rudeness.

Pete: That’s humans for you. So rude. What are your happiest memories with your humans?

Jessie: Going to the shack at Binalong Bay, where I get two walks and two swims every day. Life is so simple there.

Pete: My human is very odd. Is there something odd that you have discovered about your humans?

Jessie: She has this weird concept called personal space. I mean what is that?

Pete: I have no idea, but I’m sure I don’t like it. My human says I’m very odd. Of course, she is wrong. What do your humans think is odd about you?

Jessie: I have started making old man noises yet I am a female dog.

Pete: One thing my human does that I like is reassure me that she loves me and everything is okay. How has being in love and loved made a difference in your life? Why do they keep making me ask this awful question?

Jessie: This is a bit weird and I’m not really sure if I should mention it, but my human loves me so much she collects my poo and carries it around like a talisman.
