Working dogs mostly asleep on the job
Promoting more dog-friendly workplaces is one of the aims of the Companion Animal Network Australia
The Dogs’ Homes marked Take Your Dog to Work Day on 21 June by inviting supporters to send us pictures of their canine companions at their human’s place of employment.
We had a fantastic response and published a social media gallery celebrating dogs in the workplace, whether they be building site buddies or hairy secretaries. Many of these dogs were actually snoozing on the job!
Promoting more dog-friendly workplaces is one of the aims of the Companion Animal Network Australia, a registered charity representing the animal welfare work of six member agencies, including the Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania.
It advocates for a more pet-friendly society, also encompassing programs that support pets in aged care, helping the ageing to continue to care for their pets at home, and pushing for pet-friendly rental agreements.

In the lead up to Take Your Dog to Work Day, CANA launched its Pets in Business program to help employers set up pet-friendly policies that meet the needs of the business, non-pet owners and pet-owning staff.
“Now more than ever pets are an integral part of our lives,” says CANA CEO Trish Ennis. “With many companies continuing to have employees split their working week between home and the office, it’s no surprise people want to bring their pets to the workplace, too.”
Consumer research has found 85 per cent of Australian dog owners would go into the office more if they could take their pets, and 63 per cent of employees in pet-friendly workplaces were “very satisfied” with their work environment —nearly twice as many as those in workplaces where pets are not allowed.
