We consulted Professor Google on the possible origins and meaning of the word Zalie, and the resulting mishmash of answers was so broad and varied we abandoned the whole thing.

Sweet Zalie — who appears to love a good stretch according to her photo gallery — was a stray, and has spent some time in foster care building her confidence and getting used to new humans. Bless her.

“Zalie loves attention,” staff say. “She is an active dog who is gentle with people and enjoys company.” Zalie can get a little lonely when no one’s around so she would do best in a home where her people are home more often than not.

She has been paired with another dog in our care and seems to enjoy playmates with a similar energy level and play style. Thoughtful matchmaking will be the go. She might benefit from a beginner obedience class.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
