Koko

Koko

Remember Koko the gorilla, who apparently knew sign language? Our Koko only speaks the language of love, and that head tilt says volumes about this clever girl’s appeal. And look at the neatly folded front paws!

“Koko likes to greet you by ‘talking’ when you get home,” staff say. “She’s been great with dogs and cats in her foster home, and she enjoys watching the TV.” Girlfriend looks so switched on she could probably write scripts for a multi award-winning TV series or five. As a working dog breed, she’ll need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

Koko enjoyed the high honour of sleeping on her fave human’s bed in her previous home and foster care. She hasn’t had a lot of exposure to children and isn’t a fan of loud noises, so she’d do best in a home with kids of the teenage variety, and (hopefully) sensible ones too. She will need ongoing training, and socialisation with other dogs and people.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Koko.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Koko get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

All donations currently matched — please donate now!

For the next 48 hours, a generous Tasmanian donor will MATCH every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000. Please, dogs like Koko are relying on you.

Does your lifestyle and personality match Koko?
Energetic dynamo: Vibrant and spirited, exuberant energy levels, adventure seeking, thrives on activity and excitement.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
