Winston

Winston

Dogs called Winston tend to be heavy set and jowly, but this Winston has the magazine cover looks that make Kelpie-Border Collie crosses so appealing.

He’s the second dog to have come into our Hobart Home recently (but separately) with a deep love of balls. Hey, quiet at the back there! He will need humans with the patience and time to help his favourite pastime not become a stressful obsession. We also think he’d enjoy activities like agility sports and fly ball — your local dog training club should be able to point you in the right direction and offer valuable advice.

Winnie prefers a quieter home so we want him to go to a family with children aged at least 12. We also think he’d like an active family since he’s a sporty guy. He doesn’t like strange dogs getting all up in his face so he’s not suitable for dog parks, beaches or other off-lead areas. Gentle introductions to equally gentle potential playmates will be important. Winston has been known to case wildlife.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Winston.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Winston get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

All donations currently matched — please donate now!

For the next 48 hours, a generous Tasmanian donor will MATCH every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000. Please, dogs like Winston are relying on you.

Does your lifestyle and personality match Winston?
Energetic dynamo: Vibrant and spirited, exuberant energy levels, adventure seeking, thrives on activity and excitement.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
