Basil

Violet needed us. Right now, we need you.
In 1950, we made a promise to always be there for every dog that needs us. For Violet, that promise meant life-saving surgery and over $2,000 spent on care and medical expenses.
We need to raise $335,000 before June 30 to ensure we can continue providing care and veterinary treatment to every dog that needs us.
Basil
- Age: 7 Years old (approx.)
- Weight: 23kg
- Gender: Male
- Breed: Hound x
- Region: Hobart (off site)
- Status: Foster care
- Days in care: 17
- Adoption fee: $430
Please note: Basil is currently spending time in foster care which means that they will not be present when visiting your local Dogs’ Home.
Basil will brush away your cares with his soulful expression, and gentle and loving nature.
“We have Mr Basil as a Hound x, but we are thinking he could be Beagle-Basset Hound x,” staff say. He sure looks like it. “Basil LOVES attention and will just melt when you give him pats. He’s very polite and will sit at your feet for a scratch — and if you stop he will use his paw to demand more.” Oh Baz!
“He has very gentle nature and just wants his humas around,” they say. We think Basil will do best in a place where someone is home most of the time. He’s a water baby who enjoys going for a splash, even if it’s just in a bathtub. Basil loves his food which bodes well for any training he may need. He’s not suitable for a household with cats or other small animals.
Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Basil.

Does your lifestyle and personality match Basil?
If you are interested in meeting or adopting Basil, please phone your local Dogs’ Home. Contact details for each of our locations can be found by clicking here.
As Basil is currently staying with a foster carer, they are not located on site and will not be present if you visit. This includes if you book a visit or meeting via our online booking system. Basil will only be available to view or meet when prior arranged with our team over the phone.
Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
