Expressions of Interest

Dogs in foster care | Expressions of interest only

The dogs pictured here are available for adoption by Expression of Interest (EOI) only. These dogs are not available for viewing or ‘meet and greets’ in our Adoption area without the submission of an EOI.

This is because they are in foster care and we will need to coordinate for their carer to return them for a meet. Occasionally, dogs listed here may not be in foster care, but may have some extra special needs (eg. a senior), so we ask that you submit an expression of interest so that we can assess suitability prior to a visit.

To place an EOI, please click on the link at the bottom of the page. Staff will review your application and make contact with you to arrange a meeting with the dog if they believe you might be a good fit.

Please note:

  • we can only accept EOIs under the correct dogs name. Please don’t select another dog’s name in the drop down menu.
  • if you cannot see a dog’s name in the list, it’s because we have hit the max number of EOIs that we are able to accept for that dog  and we unable to take any further.
  • due to the number of EOIs that we receive, we may not be able to respond to unsuccessful applicants.
  • we understand you may want to increase your chances of being selected as a new fur parent, but contacting us to reiterate information in your application only takes us away from our doggie duties and does not increase your chances.

Thank you for your understanding.

🔊 Alfie is in foster care which means he is available by online expressions of interest 👁

Handsome Alfie looks to be almost bursting with enthusiasm for life, with his bright eyes and frankly over-the-top ears.

Alfie is a Border Collie-Kelpie-Smithfield x who weighs 27kg and was a year old in May. We’re told he knows sit, heel and walk, and is toilet trained.

Staff at our Hobart Home confirmed this, saying he is a “young, playful, happy boy” who will sit for treats. Ongoing training will be important at his age.

He hasn’t lived with children but has lived with other dogs, although he tends to want all the attention to himself so may do best as the sole dog in his new home. He hasn’t lived with any other pets. He will need ongoing socialisation with other dogs, and people too.

Alfie enjoys going for car rides and likes a splash under the garden sprinkler.
We’re told he loves to sleep near his humans at night. Aww, Alfie! As a mix of two brainy, working dog breeds, Alfie will need plenty of mental stimulation and exercise.

Every dog is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms, and has had a standard health check. Each dog has also been behaviourally assessed.

If you are interested in meeting Alfie, please use the link below to submit an expression of interest. Please include as much detail as you can about the life you could provide for a new dog. Staff from our Hobart Home will contact those suitable to chat and arrange an appointment.

Bella is Italian for beautiful, and whoever named our Bella got it in one.

This lively little lass is a Kelpie x who weighs 15kg and will be one year old in December. We’re told she knows sit, drop, lie down and wait, shakes paws, comes when called, and is toilet trained.

“Bella had a day out with a foster carer at the weekend,” staff say. “They said Bella travelled well in the car, sat for treats and loved playing fetch. She rolls over onto her side when she wants tummy scratches."

“She’s very independent and happy to be by herself. She’s not really interested in playing with the other dogs but tolerated them. She ideally would be better suited to a farm than the city as she has a strong tendency to chase or lunge at cars — she will need ongoing training to tackle this.”

Bella is sporting the internationally appealing “one ear up, one ear weirdly curled” look that Greyhounds do so well. See more of her in the comments.

This “very affectionate” girl weighs 25kg will be 10 years old in March. We’re told she is toilet trained and comes when called but that’s about it. She might benefit from a treat-based training refresher that will help her bond with her new family.

As an older girl, she’s looking for a quiet home with easy-going humans. She lived with another Greyhound in the past and they got on famously. She’s had dental work in our care with several teeth removed, so that cost has already been covered. Hooray!

Behold the elusive Tasmanian land seal! See more of this delightful young lady in the comments.

Emma came to us a stray so we can only speculate about her background. We think she’s a Bulldog x who is about six months old. She weighs 16kg. “Emma knows sit but will need ongoing training and socialisation,” staff say. Indeed.

Emma may be a little old for puppy preschool, so we highly recommend a beginner training class for her where she can hang out with other dogs and meet lots of new people — both key to her getting the vital socialisation she needs. It would also set her on the path of a lifetime of training, along with being a great way for her to bond with her new family.

Have you always dreamed of going for gold? Our Hobart Home can now provide that opportunity.

Gold has the most impressively foldable ears we’ve seen in some time. He’s a Greyhound who weighs 35.5kg and turned three years old on 25 September.

We don’t have a lot of information about this beautiful boy. It seems he hasn’t had any training and is not toilet trained. He happily lived with another Greyhound in his past life.

Since Gold needs training, we highly recommend a beginner obedience class. In addition to getting him up to speed with the training basics, it would also be a great way for him to bond with his new family.

A dog called Kat! That’s not confusing at all. She’s bringing her “A game” to her profile graphic — A for appeal, that is.

Kat came to us as a stray so her history is a mystery. We think she’s a Staffy x about one or two years old. She weighs 26kg.

“Kat is a fun-loving girl with lots of energy,” staff say. “She can be jumpy when greeting people but we are working on that with her and she is showing what a smart cookie she is.

“She will need a family willing to spend time training her. As she is still learning how to greet new people with less enthusiasm, we think she would be best suited to a home without young children.”

Sounds like Kat is a candidate for a beginner training course, which would be a great way for her to bond with her new family.

Bella brings our quota of dogs with that name to three! See more of her in the comments.

She’s a Beagle-Heeler x who weighs 30.5kg and turned four years old in July. We got such great feedback from her foster carer, we’re going to take a backseat and let them do the driving.

“Bella has impeccable manners, is very gentle, super loving and affectionate,” her carer says, noting that she is toilet trained. “She is an absolute darling to have around. She loves walks and is great on a lead, and meets and greets other dogs and people very gently.

“The first night here she followed me to bed and as soon as the doona was pulled back, she was straight in under the covers. She likes close contact with her people.

“She has the sweetest nature. Although a bit nervous to begin with, she has settled in very quickly. She has been playing nonstop with her foster sister Zoe and when she’s not playing, she is snuggling with the humans.”

Bella is best suited to a home without poultry or pet birds.

Eden is looking for paradise in the form of a forever family.

She came to us as a stray so we don’t know much about her. We think she’s a German Shepherd x about 18 months old. She weighs 27.5kg. She’s been spending some time in foster care and thankfully staff and her carer can fill in some of the blanks for us.

“Eden appears to be lacking social skills with people,” staff say. “She does comes out of her shell and will bond with you when feeling more confident.”

Our carer tells us she is toilet trained and picks up training very quickly. “Eden is fantastic with kids — she’s very gentle,” they say. “She loves being around family. She will be a great family dog and is now feeling a lot more settled.”

“Oh Suzie Q, baby I love you,” sang the great John Fogerty. It’s easy to love our Suzie: she’s 100 per cent a little champ. See more of her in the comments.

She’s a Shar Pei-Mastiff x who is about nine weeks old. She’s about 8kg now but has plenty of growing to do. “Suzie was surrendered to us due to needing extensive entropion surgery,” staff say. Her eyelids were rolled inward — a very painful condition. “It was so bad she was actually unable to see anything or open her eyes. Although her nose could certainly find her food!”

“She is doing really well in foster care, although she would love to have her cone off full time. She’s knows sit and is starting to get toilet trained but may still have some accidents, but she does well with the door left open.

“Suzie is super playful and loves her toys. And there is nothing better than a good place to have a nap. She loves playing Totem Tennis and outside and chasing the ball. She enjoys being part of everything. She eats like a Labrador and is a big snorer.” Oh bless.

As with all our youngsters, we highly recommend puppy preschool for kicking two important goals: getting some basic obedience training and vital socialisation with people and other pups.

Bullwinkle usually plays sidekick to a bold and adventurous flying squirrel. Our Bullwinkle has abandoned the “Rocky road” and gone solo.

He’s a Greyhound who weighs 29kg and turned eight years old in July. We’re told he knows sit and stay and is toilet trained, but since he was an outside dog that might have fallen by the wayside somewhat.

His surrender information describes him as “playful and energetic”. He enjoys one-on-one cuddle time and “loves all humans”.

Bullwinkle has had some dental work done with us so that cost has been sorted. We strongly recommend he go to a home with no small animals, including little dogs.
