Chickpea

Violet needed us. Right now, we need you.

In 1950, we made a promise to always be there for every dog that needs us. For Violet, that promise meant life-saving surgery and over $2,000 spent on care and medical expenses.

We need to raise $335,000 before June 30 to ensure we can continue providing care and veterinary treatment to every dog that needs us.

Chickpea

You might be familiar with Mexican jumping beans but we’re sure you’ve never heard of the Flying Chickpea. Those ears could provide enough lift to send her into orbit.

Staff tell us Chickie is an energetic, friendly girl who loves her toys. Her foster carer agrees about the toy thing: apparently she’s not so big on playing with them, but likes to take them off to her own personal hoard. She can be wary of new people — you would be too if you were so small — but loves kids. “She likes to be close to you,” her carer says.

“Chickpea needs a home with people committed to helping her with her basic training and confidence,” staff say. “We are also looking for a home for her without other dogs so she can have all the affection from her people.” We recommend a beginner obedience course for Chickie Babe.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Chickpea.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Chickpea get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

All donations currently matched — please donate now!

For the next 48 hours, a generous Tasmanian donor will MATCH every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000. Please, dogs like Chickpea are relying on you.

Paw-fect match

Does your lifestyle and personality match Chickpea?
Cheeky rascal: Mischievous and clever, keeps you on your toes with playful antics and personality.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
