Spike

Spike

Spike is guaranteed to deliver a shot to the heart, but we’re not sure if he should take the blame for giving love a bad name — not with that engaging grin.

He’s a Mastiff-Staffy x whose photos don’t do him justice: he has stunning dark brindle stripes in his coat. He knows some commands along with doing a great hi-five. Dude!

“Spike really enjoys human company,” staff say. “It seems he has had an owner who was more of an at-home type. He also previously lived with another dog and has been really social with other dogs while in our care.” He might like a canine companion in his new place.

His pastimes include playing with toys and puzzle games, along with a frolic under the garden sprinkler or a splash in a kiddie-sized pool, or both.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Spike.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Spike get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

Friendly, happy: Sociable and cheerful, at ease with companionship, exudes positivity.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
