It’s been a busy time for staff and volunteers at the Dog’s Homes of Tasmania, with plenty of events to keep us out and about. We held successful barbecues at Bunnings stores in Glenorchy and Kings Meadows at the end of October, sizzling so many sausages we even had people queueing up! It was a great way for us to engage with the Dogs’ Homes family, friends, and the public. They got to meet our AmbassaDog Nala in Glenorchy, and Launceston Home puppies Trouble and Patch at the Kings Meadows fry-up.
We also had a stall at the 2023 Pet Expo at Princes Wharf 1 in Hobart the same weekend. Staff members Gemma and Mel were there to share their expertise and doggy tales. We sold a range of accessories for the dog about town, our stylish new line of canvas tote bags ($15), and copies of our long-awaited 2024 calendar (also $15). We also have a fresh batch of Christmas cards! All are available to purchase online.

And we attended The Hanging Garden annual Halloween canine-themed event, Hellhounds. We saw all manner of ghosts and ghouls, spirits and sprites, and saints and sinners. Some even crossed our tarot card reader’s palm with silver as she did dog tarot readings for any dogs interested in discovering if treats are in their future.
Last, but certainly not least, the dedicated ladies of the Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania Auxiliary hosted their annual fundraising fair at the Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre on October 28. The Dogs’ Home Auxiliary is a group of dog-loving ladies who generously volunteer their time to raise much-needed funds for our beloved dogs. On sale were jewellery, toys, jigsaws, DVDs, bric-a-brac and plenty of plants. The Auxiliary has been supporting our Homes for 35 years and we are enormously grateful for all their hard work across the decades.
