You might remember Dexter as “the face” of our recent campaign to end greyhound racing in Tasmania.

Since arriving into our care, Dexter’s incredibly icky teeth are now sparkling clean, the wound on his neck has healed beautifully, and his once flaky coat is now looking soft and shiny.

He’s still missing an ear but, hey, we’re not miracle workers.

This miracle man has been in foster care and soaking up the company of his carer’s two Greyhounds. He’s a well-adjusted fellow despite his difficult past. “Dexter is a Greyhound with a Golden Retriever smile,” his carer says. “A gorgeous guy — friendly, playful and always looking for attention.” Aw, Dex!

Sexy Dexy has not passed his unmuzzling assessment and will need to wear a muzzle in public. But happily, staff say he’s not far off achieving that goal. Is there anything this god of the Greyhound world can’t do?

As Dexter is currently staying with a foster carer, they are not located on site and will not be present if you visit. This includes if you book a visit or meeting via our online booking system. Dexter will only be available to view or meet when prior arranged with our team over the phone.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
