Beef

Violet needed us. Right now, we need you.

In 1950, we made a promise to always be there for every dog that needs us. For Violet, that promise meant life-saving surgery and over $2,000 spent on care and medical expenses.

We need to raise $335,000 before June 30 to ensure we can continue providing care and veterinary treatment to every dog that needs us.

Beef

Beef has taken stock of the situation and is cooking up a plan to meat his forever family and say “sinew later” to our Launceston Home — and he makes no bones about it.

He’s a Labrador-Smithfield x. “Beef is a young man who hasn’t had the chance to have many experiences yet,” staff say. “He loves to sit your lap for a cuddle and a belly scratch, or to be close to you and sit on your feet.” Feet snuggles really are quite appealing.

We’re told Beefy knows sit, but that’s it. “He is a very sweet boy and smart boy who learns quickly,” staff say. He needs a family who have time and patience to commit to training him.” We recommend a beginner obedience class.

“He hasn’t had much socialisation and is a bit excited at the idea of making a new friend, so he will need a family who can teach him some manners when greeting other dogs.” Until Beef gets that training down pat, he’s not suitable for a home with young kids.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Beef.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Beef get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

All donations currently matched — please donate now!

For the next 48 hours, a generous Tasmanian donor will MATCH every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000. Please, dogs like Beef are relying on you.

Friendly, happy: Sociable and cheerful, at ease with companionship, exudes positivity.

If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.

Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.

Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
