Kong

Violet needed us. Right now, we need you.
In 1950, we made a promise to always be there for every dog that needs us. For Violet, that promise meant life-saving surgery and over $2,000 spent on care and medical expenses.
We need to raise $335,000 before June 30 to ensure we can continue providing care and veterinary treatment to every dog that needs us.
Kong
- Age: 1 Years old (approx.)
- Weight: 31.5kg
- Gender: Male
- Breed: Mastiff x
- Location: Devonport Dogs' Home
- Status: On site
- Days in care: 31
- Adoption fee: $430
Kong is willing to climb the Empire State Building in his search to become the king of someone’s heart.
He’s a Mastiff-Staffy x who knows all the basic commands and, as you can see in his picture gallery, knows shake as well. “Kong may like the company of another dog or human company with people around more often than not,” staff say. He lived with another dog in his old home and is used to having a canine companion.
“Kong would enjoy room to run,” staff say. “He is boisterous and strong so he’s best suited to a place with older children and no elderly folk.” He lived with cats in his past life but, cats being cats, there’s no guarantee he would be warmly embraced by any in his new household.
Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Kong.

Does your lifestyle and personality match Kong?
If you are interested in a dog, please make a booking to visit the Home where that dog is located. We can’t guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of your visit, as adoptions occur throughout the day. Our team updates the website as quickly as possible.
Your booking is simply an allocated time to view all of the dogs, and it allows us to ensure staff are available should you wish to have a meet and greet with a particular dog.
Please remember that if you are interested in adopting on the day, all household members — including any existing dogs — must attend the appointment. It’s vital that the dog meets everyone and gets along with them, and that the whole household is ready to welcome a new family member.
Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
