Make a dog’s wish come true
As Christmas approaches, many of us include our fur family on our gift lists, planning to pop a treat, a toy or perhaps a new collar or leash under the tree for our best mate.
Sadly, not every dog in Tassie will be spending time with their forever family this Christmas. So, the Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania Ambassadogs are barking up for Tassie dogs in need and sharing their Christmas wish for dogs in need across Tasmania.
- Ambassadog Norm and his buddy, Ambassadog-in-training, Sir Tater Tot (Tater to his friends) are leading the appeal.
Norm told us that “my wish is that every Tasmanian puppy is nurtured into a happy, healthy and confident dog by caring people.” Norm was surrendered as a 10-month-old pup, met his new mum through the Dogs’ Homes and he’s been pawing it forward ever since. Norm has helped more than 300 foster puppies grow into confident, strong, healthy dogs and knows that the foster care program changes dog’s lives. The Foster Care program costs $63,000 per year to deliver, but it’s vital for so many dogs each year. Donations to the Christmas Appeal will help the Dogs’ Home continue to support this program for even more dogs.
- Ambassadog Sasha now lives with Lisa Gormley – Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania’s human ambassador – but Sasha remembers the time she spent at the Dogs’ Homes before she met her mum. She knows just how important safe yards for play time and warm, clean kennels for bedtime are for dogs who are waiting for their forever home.
Sasha’s wish is that “every dog needing a home is safe and happy whilst waiting to find a forever family to love them.” Over $200,000 is spent in a year maintaining, repairing, heating and improving the facilities at Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania’s four Homes around the State. Donations to the Christmas Appeal will help the Dogs’ Homes continue kennel maintenance and yard improvements across our four Homes so dogs can continue to be happy and safe for many years to come.
- Ambassadogs Vespa and Murphy are best mates. Their mum is a vet who cares for Dogs’ Homes dogs, and they know just how critical vet care is for dogs who come to the Dogs’ Homes. From routine care such as vaccinations and desexing, to treatment of fractures and injuries, to services such as dental care for painful teeth.
Vespa and Murphy’s wish is that “every dog always has the vet care and support they need for a healthy, pain-free life.”In 2020-21 the cost of vet care and treatment for the more than 3,000 dogs helped by the Dogs’ Homes was over $328,000. Donations to the Christmas appeal will help our Dogs’ Homes vets continue their wonderful care.

Together the Ambassadogs showcase the many different stories, the varied personalities and the joyful spirit of Dogs’ Homes dogs. Big and small, young and old, shaggy and sleek, purebred and mixed breeds, we’re so proud of every single one of them.
