Flipper

Flipper

Please note: Flipper is currently spending time in foster care which means that they will not be present when visiting your local Dogs’ Home.

With his stripey coat and mouth stretched wide open in the world’s happiest grin, we think Flipper could pass for a fylacine – sorry — a thylacine.

He was a stray, so we don’t know anything about his past. We think he’s a Boxer-Mastiff x who has no idea he was named after both an olde-timey kids’ TV show and one of the niftiest  bowling manoeuvres of all time.

He’s in foster care having a whale of a time. “Flipper is a delightful, friendly, easy-going dog who is relaxed around the house,” his carer says. He’s happily played with his foster sibling for hours — the Flipster might like a fur friend in his new place. He was also friendly with their small army of cats, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be embraced by any cats in his new home.

Flip’s fabulous foster carer has been working on his basic training. Ideally his new family should be committed to continuing this, perhaps with a beginner obedience class as a starting point.

Please ensure the below information, including the ‘please note’ section, is read in full if you are interested in viewing, meeting or adopting Flipper.

Tasmanian dogs need you

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania receives no government funding. Dogs like Flipper get their second chance because somebody like you donated.

Even a $5 donation today can help save the next life. We wouldn’t be here for Tassie dogs without the generosity of our donors.

All donations currently matched — please donate now!

For the next 48 hours, a generous Tasmanian donor will MATCH every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000. Please, dogs like Flipper are relying on you.

Does your lifestyle and personality match Flipper?
Gentle giant: Big body, even bigger heart — patient, soft, and loving despite their size.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Flipper, please phone your local Dogs’ Home. Contact details for each of our locations can be found by clicking here.

As Flipper is currently staying with a foster carer, they are not located on site and will not be present if you visit. This includes if you book a visit or meeting via our online booking system.  Flipper will only be available to view or meet when prior arranged with our team over the phone.

Please note:
• Rental agreements allowing dogs will be required for adoption into rental properties.
• Before adopting a dog, all members of your household must attend a meet and greet with the dog (including small children and existing dogs).
• Whilst the website is live and updates frequently, there is a chance that when you arrive a dog may already have been adopted by some-one else. Sorry, but we cannot put dogs on hold over the phone. You need to meet them first so that we can ensure a suitable match.
• While our Homes are open, not every dog available for adoption will be onsite and available in person. You will notice some dogs are listed as ‘foster care’. This means that they are offsite with one of our amazing foster carers. If you are interested in this dog, please contact the Home directly to discuss suitability and a possible meet.
